Mastering ~ The Cost
What does it cost?
For a single track:- £60.00 to £75.00 (includes 24 bit & 16 bit masters plus mp3)
For an album:- £300.00 to £400.00 for 10 to 12 tracks. Assumes that all tracks are consistent and recorded at appropriate levels and bit rates see mastering FAQ's for more information.
What about payment?
A deposit of £100.00 is required for album projects before any work begins. Once the project is completed you will be asked to pay the balance. As soon as cleared funds are received your tracks will be released to you in the format(s) agreed.
For single tracks, usually no deposit is taken
What you will receive
You will receive test Mp3's of one of your tracks for you to comment on. When you are happy, the project will be mastered and you'll be notified when it is completed (usually within 24 hours).
Once payment is made, your finished tracks will be sent to you. (See package types on the right).
Send As Much Documentation As Possible
Track order, lengths, any reference material and anything at all that you feel is relevant. The more information the mastering engineer has, the easier it will be to get the finished sound that you want.
To sum up:
- Mix to about -5dbfs
- Avoid clipping at every stage of recording
- No fades
- Don't over compress your mix
- Be thoughtful when adding effects and ambience
- 2 seconds of background noise
- Document everything
- Don't forget the UPC Barcode and ISRC codes (if you have them)
